, "endeavour" trying to come home. it wasn't easy. abc's abbie boudreau is in los angeles. >> reporter: inching along at a mere two miles per hour, it was hardly the kind of high-speed chase we're used to seeing in los angeles, but it's just as much of a nail biter. here it came within millimeters of hitting this street lamp. >> pretty amazing. >> it feels like i'm a part of history. >> reporter: "endeavour" already made an incredible 25 missions to space traveling 122 million miles, but its journey on the ground has been a logistical challengement just imagine trying to clear enough space for a 78-foot wingspan. that's half the width of a football field. the shuttle weighs 80 tons. that's the equivalent of 42 cars, so heavy that thousands of metal plates were used to reinforce the roads. nearly 400 trees had to be cleared from its 12-mile journey. even power lines were raised to make room for the tail, which stands five stories tall. >> and liftoff for the final launch of "endeavour." >> reporter: and after 25 dedicated years on the job, "endeavour" completed its 3-day, 12- mile journey home t

're still raising money. tonight in los angeles mr. obama will be joined by bill clinton at a fund-raiser, and the president continues to shatter records. he's nearly doubled the number of fund-raisers george bush held and has dwarfed his other predecessors. it's paid off. last month a new fund-raising record, $181 million in just 30 days. a total of 835 million breaking his own record of four years ago. mitt romney has raised at least $548 million, and here's what's remarkable, if both men had stayed in what's known as the public financing system in which they can't take huge donations but then get matching federal funds, they could have only each spent $135 million. that means the president has really raised six times what he would have been allowed if he had stayed in the public financing system. now, mitt romney is going to continue today to try and flip florida into his column. he has another appearance in port st. lucie a little bit later today. >> astonishing numbers, david, thank you. >>> we'll turn to the political showdown, not between presidential candidates, but rather

morning. take a look at this. all of this gas here at this station in los angeles, well above $5 a gallon whichhows you just how valuable the stuff is these days. one pair of thievers here in california stole so much gas they have enough to make more than four-round trips between los angeles and new york city. the brazen thieves hit this shell station near sacramento four times in three days. managing to steal $4,500 worth of gasoline. >> i don't know, if it will cover that money or not. >> reporter: in all, they took off with more than 1100 gallons of precious gas. here's how police say they did it. at 1:30 in the morning. a man in blake pickup pulled up to the station. somehow, he managed to disable the meter and pump 300 gallons of gas straight into the truck. police believe the thieves came back the next day and drove off with hundreds more gallons. then, they came back again, a day later. this time, during store hours to steal even more. >> it actually was brought to the attention of the owner because he was short on his tallies for his amount of gas. >> reporter: this as skyrocketin
